New Mexico Cancer Research Alliance

The New Mexico Cancer Research Alliance works to close a difficult gap. Leading cancer research is often concentrated in a handful of large cities, while New Mexico is a large, rural state where traveling for care can mean several hours on the road.

Its goal is to make prevention, screening, detection, diagnosis, and treatment trials available in communities across the state.

The search is the site

The clinical-trials search was the core of the project. We built the complete site and search system in Webflow, then created the process that receives a data feed from the University of New Mexico, parses it, and updates the available trials every day.

A trials directory is a demanding interface problem because the person using it may have received a diagnosis only weeks earlier. They should not need to understand the structure or vocabulary of a research database. We organized the search around the stage of care and the information a patient is likely to know.

Three audiences, one site

Patients and their families need understandable options. Physicians need referral information. Research sponsors need to see the alliance’s statewide capabilities. Each group gets a direct route through the site without having to sort through material intended for the others.

Equal access across New Mexico and culturally centered care run through the content. The site treats both as part of the alliance’s work, not as footnotes. The team can also publish announcements and events directly while the automated feed keeps trial information current.
